Have Your Values Disappeared Into Thin Air?
*
Today I overheard a woman tell her friend: "I will send out my cat to maul the faces of flakey, lazy people who call themselves my friend but use me to get what they want. They only make contact when it's convenient for them. I'm sick of it. I see through them. The other shoe will drop. And I'll be there when it does."
While I find that a bit harsh (besides, my cats wouldn't know how to attack anything except catnip), I certainly can share the general sentiment. It's happened to me. It's happening now. Forget cats, lady. Karma will take care of it.
Poni Hoax - "Budapest"
Poni Hoax - "Budapest (Joakim Italo Dub)"
"Budapest" has been on heavy rotation on my iPod for almost a straight month now ever since I got an early copy of Poni Hoax's EP Blood On The Dancefloor. Joakim Bouaziz's Italo Dub casts a sinister shadow on the original track, adding synth-driven elements and a killer dancefloor beat. While these tracks are the total sum of crazy production skills and computer apps, the outcome feels inexplicably human and as urgent as a heroin rush: it's all flesh, blood and sweat. (Not that I would know what a heroin rush feels like, but you know.) Poni Hoax is a French fivesome with a fantastic panache for combining rock with electro, creating something derivative of video game science music. The Italo Dub sounds like a Dario Argento horror flick (think Suspiria), a dancey version of Daemonia perhaps. Buy here.
U2 - "Fast Cars (Jacknife Lee Mix)"
Found on the limited edition of U2's Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own, this track doesn't deviate too much from the original. Jacknife Lee, whose real name is Garrett Lee, gives it an ever-so-slight electro touch still, however, heavy on the rock element. There's not much to elaborate on it except to say that it's worth a listen, indeed. Buy here.
JZ: The email meant a lot to me.
Thanks
